Many women are singing together of this: one is in a shoe factory cursing the machine, one is at the aquarium tending a seal, one is dull at the wheel of her Ford, one is at the toll gate collecting, one is tying the cord of a calf in Arizona, one is straddling a cello in Russia, one is shifting pots on the stove in Egypt, one is painting her bedroom walls moon color, one is dying but remembering a breakfast, one is stretching on her mat in Thailand, one is wiping the ass of her child, one is staring out the window of a train in the middle of Wyoming and one is anywhere and some are everywhere and all seem to be singing, although some can not sing a note. The quote “Many women are singing together of this: one is in a shoe factory cursing the machine, one is at the aquarium tending a seal, one is dull at the wheel of her Ford, one is at the toll gate collecting, one is tying the cord of a calf in Arizona, one is straddling a cello in Russia, one is shifting pots on the stove in Egypt, one is painting her bedroom walls moon color, one is dying but remembering a breakfast, one is stretching on her mat in Thailand, one is wiping the ass of her child, one is staring out the window of a train in the middle of Wyoming and one is anywhere and some are everywhere and all seem to be singing” has been said by many different people throughout time. This quote speaks to how women have been treated throughout history. In the past women have been treated horribly because they were seen as less than men. Women were expected to sit at home and take care of their families while their husbands went out to work.

Although this probably sounds nice given that they were able to take care of their children and do chores around the house without having to worry about money or working a job. The problem comes when women start working outside of their house. It wasn’t uncommon for men to not want their wives to work outside their house.

This would have been because they saw it as a threat to their manhood if their wife was able to make money for herself. The fact that I can make money on my own shows that I am independent. The fact that I make money shows that I am more than capable of taking care of myself.

To them this would mean that they can no longer control me or dictate my life anymore. So instead they tried to keep me from making money on my own by any means necessary whether it was through physical violence or denying me an education. This quote also shows that even though womankind has made great strides in terms of rights for women today there are still many struggles that women face everyday because there are some men who refuse to accept them as equals let alone equal partners in life.
